Trade-offs between Color Saturation and Noise Sensitivity in Image Sensors

چکیده
A color correction matrix is usually used to transf o r m the raw color image obtained f r o m color image sensors to adjust f o r factors such as variations in illumination and deviations of the actual filter characteristics f rom the ideal. Color correction matrices that have high condition numbers can greatly amplify noise, while it can be dificult to achieve good color saturation with low condition number matrices. Noise can be a significant problem f o r digital camera images which have limited bit-depth. W e explore the trade-off between noise reduction and color saturation analytically, and using digital camera images. W e present a n orthonormality criterion t o define optimality with respect to noise sensitivity and color saturation in the case of signal-independent, orthogonal sensor measurement noise in each color channel.

Color Estimation Error Trade-offs
Digital imager sensor responses must be transformed to calibrated (human) color representations for display or print reproduction. Errors in these color rendering transformations can arise from a variety of sources, including (a) noise in the acquisition process (including photon noise and sensor noise) and (b) sensor spectral responsivities inconsistent with those of the human cones. These err...

Noise removal operation is commonly applied as pre-processing step before subsequent image processing tasks due to the occurrence of noise during acquisition or transmission process. A common problem in imaging systems by using CMOS or CCD sensors is appearance of the salt and pepper noise. This paper presents Cellular Automata (CA) framework for noise removal of distorted image by the salt an...

Editorial Getting closer to reality in modeling image capture devices is crucial for the improvement of image quality beyond the limits of image restoration algorithms as we know them today. This calls for more accurate statistical modeling of distortions and noise coming from real capture devices (Poisson noise, internal non-linearities, space variant point spread functions due to nonideal opt...
متن کاملEthical Perspective: Five Unacceptable Trade-offs on the Path to Universal Health Coverage
This article discusses what ethicists have called “unacceptable trade-offs” in health policy choices related to universal health coverage (UHC). Since the fiscal space is constrained, trade-offs need to be made. But some trade-offs are unacceptable on the path to universal coverage. Unacceptable choices include, among other examples from low-income countries, to expand coverage for services wit...

The World Health Organization’s (WHO’s) World Health Report 2010, “Health systems financing, the path to universal coverage,” promoted universal health coverage (UHC) as an aspirational objective for country health systems. Yet, in addition to the dimensions of services and coverage, distribution of coverage in the population, and financial risk protection highlighted by the report, the conside...
